Technique reminders!!!

  • You’ve been having great practices this week.  Hopefully you’ve learned some key things to help you during your race:
  1. Quick start to establish your position- if you get caught back in a pack you waste a lot of energy  playing catch-up.
  2. Maintain contact with those you train with.  There may be a time of discomfort, but push through the “comfort-zone”.  It may take ten seconds, but then you’ll get back in a rhythm.  It’s about the TEAM.
  3. Keep only positive thoughts, throw out anything negative that creeps into your head.  Remember what Allie said on Tuesday, “Even the leaders don’t feel great the entire race, but they learn to adapt and move on”.
  4. Staying relaxed w/ controlled breathing- Keep your face & shoulders relaxed.  You should feel your jaw muscles loose.  Occasionally, shake your arms out by dropping them to your side. Bring your arms backup to your side-but, don’t swing them across your body.

Last 1/2 mile is a great stretch to pass people– LET’S SEE YOU DO IT!!!

Tricia
